View of Gardiner from
Rocky Mountain Campground
|
Gardiner is located in
Southwest Montana, at the North entrance to Yellowstone
National Park. The town is situated in breathtaking Paradise Valley
with the Yellowstone River running right
through the town. Founded in 1880, Gardiner became a center of activity
for visitors to the region, serving as the original, and only year round
entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Gardiner offers motels, restaurants,
shops, art galleries, churches, a small airport and related visitor services.
Campground and trailer parks offer overnight services with full hook-ups.
Sandwiched between the Absaroka- Beartooth
Wilderness
to the north and the worlds most famous park to the south, seasonal activities
abound, with a focus on the outdoors. In the summer and fall plan on fishing,
hunting, pack-trips, whitewater rafting and kayaking. In the winter. Yellowstone
Country is magically
transformed under a blanket of snow, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling
are the most popular activities.

Teddy Roosevelt Arch
Entrance to Yellowstone |
Wild pronghorn across
park street, on the hills and inthe meadow, is a thrill that few towns
can boast. Listen carefully and you are apt to hear Coyotes in the foothills.
Even black
and Grizzly bears will occasionally wander into town. In the winter Bald
Eagles and Osprey abound on the Yellowstone river, while bighorn sheep
come down to graze within view. Even the more cautious and unlikely moose
are seen on occasion in the canyon above town, not to mention ubiquitous
Elk, Deer and Buffalo.
One of our autumn views |
Gardiner has survived
a rough and tumble existence of gold rushes, the railroad and even destructive
fires. A tough little frontier town, it fed and sheltered miners, entertained
the early soldiers who operated Yellowstone National Park, and learned
to host the pioneer visitor. Gardiner has matured, tempered and grown
to meet the needs of today's visitors. It is a good place to spend some
rich time in history, in the heart of some of the west's finest country.
Gardiner, Montana
is the original entrance to Yellowstone National Park and is Home to the
historic Roosevelt Arch. It is 5 miles to
